State inspectors conduct yearly health and safety inspections of nursing homes for compliance with Medicare and Medicaid regulations. A nursing home may also be inspected based on a complaint submitted by a resident (or other individual), or based on a facility’s self-reported incident. Nursing homes are also inspected for compliance with infection control and prevention standards.<\/p>

This information is gathered by trained, objective inspectors who go onsite to the nursing home and follow a specific process to determine the extent to which a nursing home has met Medicaid and Medicare\u2019s minimum quality requirements. The most recent survey findings are weighted more than the prior year.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

2. Staffing<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Staffing rating has information about the number of hours of care provided on average to each resident each day by nursing staff. This rating considers differences in the levels of residents’ care needs in each nursing home.\u00a0<\/p>

For example, a nursing home with residents who had more severe needs would be expected to have more nursing staff than a nursing home where the residents needs were not as high.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

3. Quality Measures (QMs)<\/h3>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Quality Measure rating has information on 16 different physical and clinical measures for nursing home residents.
