purpose<\/h1>
No one wants to think and worry about disasters.\u00a0 Knowing what to expect ahead of time can help ease any concerns.\u00a0 This fact sheet tells you how our facility has prepared for emergencies.<\/p>
scope<\/h1>
We have a written emergency plan that is reviewed and tested every year.\u00a0 Our plan addresses the following types of emergencies:<\/h1>
Weather emergencies such as tornadoes, hurricanes, and winter weather.<\/li>
Security incidents such as bomb threats, terrorism, and active shooters.<\/li>
Natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods.<\/li>
Emerging infectious diseases such as influenza, SARS, COVID-19 and others.<\/li><\/ul>
All staff and volunteers are trained on emergency procedures.\u00a0 They participate in drills and exercises to test their knowledge.\u00a0 Residents are asked to take part in all drills so they can know what to expect in an actual emergency.<\/p>
Communication<\/h1>
Our emergency plan includes procedures for communication.\u00a0 Notification of families in the event of an evacuation is part of that plan.\u00a0 We ask that you provide us with current phone numbers and\/or email addresses. \u00a0You can expect either a personal call or a recorded message. \u00a0If you provide an email address, you may receive an email in addition to the phone call. \u00a0In the event of an emergency, call lines may be busy.\u00a0 If all lines are in use at the time of your call, you can expect a recorded message telling you what procedures are in place.<\/p>

EVACUATION VERSUS SHELTER-IN-PLACE<\/p>
This facility uses a standard approach to managing emergencies.\u00a0 The Administrator serves as the Incident Commander. \u00a0Department Heads serve specific roles during an emergency.\u00a0 They communicate with staff and local emergency management officials in order to make decisions.\u00a0 One major decision is whether to evacuate or shelter-in-place.\u00a0 The Administrator makes the final decision.<\/p>
In case of evacuation, we have procedures in place to ensure the safety of our residents.\u00a0 We have made arrangements in advance with other facilities and transportation services to ensure our residents have a safe place to go.\u00a0 Our nurses send important medical information with each resident.\u00a0 They keep a log of where each resident is sent.\u00a0 In case of immediate evacuation, such as with a fire, our safe zone is [specify location<\/em>].<\/p>
For safety reasons, the Administrator may decide to shelter-in-place.\u00a0 This may occur when there is not enough time to evacuate safely. \u00a0Sometimes it may be safer inside the building. \u00a0We have procedures in place to ensure adequate food, supplies, power, and medications for our residents and staff for at least three days.\u00a0 We have made arrangements in advance to receive additional supplies or assistance, if needed.<\/p>
Lock-Down Procedures<\/h1>
Some situations will warrant the facility to be placed on \u201clock down\u201d.\u00a0 During these situations, no one will be allowed to enter or leave the facility.\u00a0 Lock-downs may occur for many reasons, including (but not limited to) a hazardous chemical inside or outside the building, a weather-related event, or police action outside the building. \u00a0In the event of a lockdown, please remain calm and follow any instructions from management staff or emergency personnel. \u00a0<\/p>
