CASSOPOLIS, Mich. — Cass County Medical Care Facility Administrator Mercedes Schirripa has been recognized as an outstanding leader in Moody on the Market’s 40 Under 40 recognition.

The designation, given to 40 young leaders from throughout southwest Michigan each year, recognizes individuals who have achieved significant success in their respective fields before the age of 40. The award committee takes into consideration each nominee’s leadership, innovation, and contributions to each recipient’s industry and community.

Schirripa was appointed as administrator at Cass County Medical Care Facility in 2024 after an extensive search for the facility’s leader. She had previously spent 13 years mastering each aspect of the long-term care industry, starting as a Certified Nursing Assistant, then as a billing manager for nursing facility, and later as a staffing manager, nursing scheduler and human resources manager.

“I remember crying and immediately calling my family to tell them, ‘I finally made it,’” Schirripa said, recounting the day she was offered the administrator position. “I am extremely proud to serve our residents of the facility, our staff, families and the community that I grew up in.”

Schirripa is a graduate of Ross Beatty High Junior/Senior High School in Cassopolis.

“I showed animals at the Cass County Fair. I spent many days on Diamond Lake swimming at the public access and enjoying what our small town had to offer,” she said.

Schirripa said she does not take the recognition from Moody on the Market lightly.

“There are not enough words to express my gratitude to everyone that has supported me on my journey,” she said. “To CCMCF residents, families and staff, I hope I get to continue serving you for all my years to come. We have such an amazing team and have come such a long way in the past eight months.”

Cass County Medical Care Facility is a nonprofit entity dedicated to providing quality care to senior citizens regardless of their income.

“I can say without a doubt that the team we have today at CCMCF are there because they care about our elderly and have hearts of gold ready to serve,” she said. “I hope that our community and facility take pride in my recognition that they have a strong leader who has spent most of her adult life thus far mastering the long-term care industry and who is dedicated to ensuring your loved ones receive the best possible care.”

Schirripa and the other members of the 40 Under 40 class will be recognized at a ceremony at The Inn at Harbor Shores in Benton Harbor later this month.
